Sam Laser was born December 22, 1919, and he passed away on October 21, 2010. As the founder of Laser Law Firm, Sam began practicing law in 1947. Mr. Laser formed Cockrill, Limerick & Laser in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1952. The firm had a diverse practice, with emphasis on oil and gas work, and its clients included Gulf and Texaco. In 1974, the firm became Laser, Sharp, Haley, Young and Boswell. At that time, the firm began tailoring its clientele to insurance companies, specializing in insurance defense litigation. In a career spanning more than 60 years of active practice, Mr. Laser tried approximately 750 jury trials to verdicts, most of which were insurance and civil litigation defense cases.
Currently, Kevin Staten serves as the firm's senior partner. Mr. Staten has practiced continuously with the firm since he was first hired as an associate in 1985.
For example, Mr. Laser drafted the standards of practice governing the relations between attorneys and physicians which were adopted by the Arkansas Bar Association and Arkansas Medical Society. Jake Sharp, a former partner in the firm, aided in drafting the original Arkansas Model Jury Instructions. Additionally, the firm was one of the first in Arkansas to participate in the now-widespread practice of mediation. Throughout the firm's history, the attorneys at Laser Law Firm have, quite literally, been involved with the development of case law in all areas of civil practice in Arkansas. The firm has an active appellate practice, and members of the firm have participated in hundreds of oral arguments in the highest state and Federal courts. A number of the firm's partners are considered to be among the best civil litigators in the state.
